Peel Your Way to Radiant Skin

Chemical peels are non-invasive cosmetic treatments that involve applying a chemical solution to the skin’s surface, which exfoliates and removes damaged and dead skin cells. The level of exfoliation depends on the type of chemical peel used, with some targeting the outermost layer of the skin while others penetrate deeper to treat more severe skin conditions. Chemical peels are commonly used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, acne, and uneven skin tone and texture, resulting in a smoother and brighter complexion.

Chemical Peels Correct:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage and age spots
  • Acne and acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Hyperpigmentation and melasma
  • Rough and dry skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Blackheads and whiteheads
  • Dull complexion
  • Dark circles around the eyes

The Science Behind Chemical Peels

Chemical peels exfoliate the top layers of the skin, revealing smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking skin underneath. The chemical solution breaks down the bonds that hold dead and damaged skin cells together, causing them to shed and peel off. The new skin cells are healthier and more vibrant, with improved texture and tone. Additionally, the exfoliation process stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibers, which can plump and firm the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Your Complete Chemical Peels Experience

Preparation
To prepare for your chemical peel, avoid using harsh skincare products or treatments for at least a week before your appointment. Be sure to inform your provider of any medications or medical conditions you have. It’s also recommended to avoid direct sun exposure and to use broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly in the weeks leading up to your treatment.

Treatment
During your chemical peel session, your provider will cleanse your skin and apply the chemical solution to the treatment area. You may feel a mild tingling sensation, but most people say that VI Peels are completely pain free. The solution will be left on the skin for four hours, after which it self neutralizes. You will wash and apply boosting serums at home to enhance the peel results. The entire process takes 30-45 minutes, depending on the type and strength of the peel.

Side Effects
Common side effects of VI chemical peels include mild redness, itching and swelling. Your skin may also peel and flake in the days following your treatment. It’s important to avoid picking at any peeling skin and keep the treatment area moisturized.

Recovery
The downtime and recovery process after a chemical peel depends on the type and strength of the peel you receive. You should avoid sun exposure and strenuous exercise for a few days and follow your provider’s aftercare instructions carefully. Keep your skin moisturized and avoid picking at any peeling skin to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.

Results
You may notice some immediate improvement in your skin’s texture and tone after your chemical peel, but the full results can take several days to appear. The duration of the results depends on the type of peel and your skin’s response, but they can last several months with proper skincare maintenance.

Frequency
The number of treatments needed for optimal results depends on your skin type, concerns, and the type of chemical peel you receive. Your provider will recommend a treatment plan based on your individual needs. Typically, 3-6 treatments spaced several weeks apart are recommended for best results.
